International Women's Day, original painting
I painted this the day after Internation Women's Day 2021, feeling inspired by all the women around me and online, supporting eachother and trying to create a more equal future. It was a simple expression of joy, a woman holding up a huge basket of cut flowers - who could be anywhere in the world. I was planning to hang it in my daughter's bedroom.
However as the News the rest of that week continued to deliver desperately disapointing stories and stats about women's fundemental safety, let alone equality - I decided to sell this piece, giving all profits to Women's Aid.
A4 size illustration, gouache on thick textured watercolour paper.
